site Edition Verified download. Tons of errors, theorems and definitions don't always define variables, leaving you hunting through verbose derivations to find them.
Hardcover Verified download. Thank you. Excellent book so far. I have had this for 14 hours. One of my already owned Numerical Analysis books has a copyright. This one by Burden already far exceeds the effort. I find complete mathematical explanations inside this tenth edition. As I continue to use this book in my professional role, I will have more to write about I am sure. One thing that is an excellent help is the inside cover of the book is a listing of the Algorithms by name, then the section and page number to see the details.
I agree with other reviewers that the less than five star ratings are from people who are not expecting to use math in Numerical Analysis. The cold hard reality is that math knowledge is highly important in the Numerical Analysis area of Computer Science and Software Engineering.
I already predict heavy use in the next few months both professionally and personal projects. My favorite introductory text. One person found this helpful.
The book is nice, and it looks much better like new. Nothing you won't get in any other numerical analysis book. Good but not great. Contained quite a few errors in computations, etc, that derailed a couple examples into wrong answers replacing 2 with sqrt 2 , etc, not sure how that doesn't become immediately obvious. Really verbose where it doesn't need to be; it strikes me as a textbook where the author was paid based on how many words they use.
I like the layout of the book though, and in true numerical analysis style it includes a good bit of help for the computational side; Maple code, algorithm descriptions, etc. The content is standard -- but ultimately I'd recommend to find another Atkinson, maybe.

However, pn is the nth term of the divergent harmonic series, so limn! Solutions 19 Equations 2. Thus, a zero of f Exercise has beenSet found 2 on the first iteration.
Exercise Set 2. Only the method of part a seems promising. The order in descending speed of convergence is b , d , and a. The sequence in c does not converge. The sequence in c converges faster than in d. The sequences in a and b diverge. Corollary 2. Solutions 23 Equations Exercise Set 2.

Replace the second sentence in the proof with: The rest of the proof is the same, with k replaced by L. By the Mean Value Theorem g x for x 2 [p.
Using the endpoints of the intervals as p0 and p1 , we have: The point has the coordinates 0. The point is 1. The two numbers are approximately 6.
We have. The minimal annual interest rate is 6. This formula involves the subtraction of nearly equal numbers in both the numerator and denominator if pn 1 and pn 2 are nearly equal. The equation of the tangent line is y.
Hence f has a zero of multiplicity m at p. We need p10 to have this accuracy.
The complex roots are 2.See all. Cover has no visible wear, and the dust jacket if applicable is included for hard covers.
